A Scary Time for Me.

A Scary Time for Me.

Looking back at this past year, it almost feels unreal. I have a thriving business, a beautiful fiancee, healthy friendships, and so much more to be grateful for. 2018 was an extremely difficult year for me. I was laid off from my job at a hotel spa along with the rest of the staff. I was struggling with taking my practice part-time to full time while driving Lyft on the side to pay the mortgage. I was just about to throw in the towel and join the airforce. It wasn’t until I made a big decision that paved the way to where I am today.

I have always been a very self-reliant person, believing I can muscle through and accomplish anything on my own merit. But God likes to humble us when our egos get out of check. It was very obvious that my way was not working and I had to get back on track fast.

When I was working at the spa, Sundays was always the big money day, so that separated me from my Church home at Calvary Baptist New Orleans. That separation left a very palpable void in my life. I felt like a completely different person. So after the spa closed its doors for good I decided to return home.

Having a place to worship was very uplifting for me. I have always been a musician, so the way I communicate best with the Lord has always been through song and music. Calvary had gotten a new worship leader since my last time attending, and she reached out to me after that service to see if I would be interested in joining the praise team. My heart was eager to serve and I agreed.

I quickly got plugged in and started playing the percussion section for the worship portion of our services. My time with this group has been amazing for my well being. A group that makes me feel loved and valued. It’s sadly something hard to come by today. But these people have quickly become some of the greatest friends I have ever have and one of them will soon be my wife.

With these positive influences in my life, I was making much better choices for myself. And I was listening to what God wanted for my life as well. Little by little he revealed more to me for my business and put in place amazing clients I could never have hoped to gain on my own merit, that would launch my practice to where it is today.

I am overly blessed and forever indebted to His mercy.

I hope that you may find reassurance in reading this if you find yourself in a scary chapter of your life. When we walk alone we can only go so far, but when we walk with the Lord our path will be plentiful.

Thank you,

Jake.
